Last Hump of the Season

Went on a quick hike with Harry (the crazy bastard dog!) up Camel’s Hump on  Saturday, April 14.  As you can see, there’s still snow on top, but it’s on its way out.

Camels Hump 2012-April-14

Harry and I at the summit of Camels Hump, April 14, 2012

This is probably the last chance for the next several weeks.  The lower half of the trail is already clear and dry.  And the top third is still snowy.  But the middle third is well into the thaw.  I was able to walk up by sticking to the rocks and occasionally plunking in a puddle–but soon the thaw will be enough that it’s not really possible to go up without stepping in mud, and that’s good for the trail (even worse is going around the mud and creating new “trail”.

The winter season is over…but the summer season is right around the corner.

Cheers!
Mike
